The view host Whoopi Goldberg attempted Monday to make excuses for President Biden, who is currently embroiled in a classified documents scandal, suggesting he may have released the documents when he was vice president.
The panel discussed a series of recent incidents where sensitive documents were found illegally on Biden’s property. Among the unauthorized locations where they were found were a think tank’s office in Washington, D.C., and Biden’s home in Wilmington, Del., also in his garage.
“George Bush made it so that presidents could be demoted, Obama stretched it to make them vice presidents. I wish they would all say that while explaining what’s going on because when you say “secret document” everyone goes “oh my god!! How dare he keep that up?’” Goldberg said on the show.
She suggested that Biden may have already preemptively released the documents that were eventually transported to his home, as well as to the Washington think tank where the first batch was found, meaning he would not have broken the law.
“And if these guys can declass – presidents and vice presidents can declass – are we chasing our tail with this?” she asked.
Co-host Alyssa Farah Griffin agreed that no double standard can be applied to Biden and Trump, who made the baseless claim that he had stolen some of the documents discovered during the raid at his Mar-a-Lago residence. released.
“In order for Biden to release something, there has to be evidence that he did in fact release it, and that is what Trump is trying to argue,” Griffin said. Trump has so far failed to prove that he released the documents.
Goldberg responded that Trump said he did this “with his mind,” suggesting that Biden may have taken more deliberate precautions, even though he has said no such thing publicly, Griffin added. Trump said in September after the FBI’s sudden search of his Florida home that presidents can release documents just by thinking about them.
In recent comments to the press, Biden has noted that he was unaware of the whereabouts of the documents or their contents, saying he has nothing to hide and that “there is nothing.”
“I think you’ll find there’s nothing there. I have no regrets. I’m following what the lawyers have told me they want me to do. That’s exactly what we do; there is none there,” Biden said.
On November 2, a series of secret documents from Biden’s vice presidential tenure were first found by Biden’s lawyers, according to a statement they gave, at the Penn Biden Center, which served as Biden’s private office from 2017 to 2019. office then searched Biden’s homes in Delaware last week and discovered two additional sets of classified papers. Attorney General Merrick Garland has appointed a special counsel — Robert K. Hur — to investigate Biden’s alleged mishandling of classified documents.
“What I’m frustrated with is how brutal and dismissive President Biden has been about this, saying, ‘Anyone can be irresponsible, but I have no regrets and there’s none there, but it was locked up next to my corvette. “This is, as you said, serious business,” Griffin added.
