Claim:
A video showed authentic people from a coastline that fled a tsunami after an earthquake off the Russian coast in July 2025.
Judgement:

Review: Wrong
At the end of July 2025, after an earthquake of 8.8 magnate (archived) of the Russian Kamchatka peninsula that caused Tsunami warnings in the Pacific, a video spread on social media who reportedly showed people who flee from tsunami waves caused by the earth.
One X user, for example, shared the images, which had been viewed more than 460,000 times from this writing, together with the caption (archived): “Breaking: an earthquake with a force of 8.7 hits Russia that triggers Tsunami. Enge visuals as shown in this video.”

(X user @aalochak07)
The clip appeared next to the claim elsewhere on X with captions with regard to the Russian earthquake (archived, archived).
However, the video was made a mistake. The clip actually showed the aftermath of another tsunami that took place in Greenland in 2017, not in Russia in 2025.
The earliest version of the images found was posted on YouTube on 8 September 2017 on YouTube, entitled “Nuugaatsiaq Tsunami Rasmus.” The video was posted for almost three months after a landslide had activated a tsunami that (archived) t (archived)he west coast of Greenland and hit one Small village called Nuugaatsiaq on 17 June 2017, according to the International Tsunami Information Center.
It was not clear who recorded the recordings on YouTube; However, it seemed to be real and there was nothing to indicate that it was made with the help of artificial intelligence software.
According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric AdministrationFour people died and 11 buildings were destroyed (archived) because of the tsunami that hit Nuugaatsiaq.
In 2021, Licet Studios, a video company that offers enforced videos for television, film and digital publishers, mentioned the video on its license platform (archived) and YouTube (archived) on rights.
The video was entitled “Greenland Tsunami: Fishermen Run for their live – Camera 3”, and the description on the license platform was:
Shocking video records the impact when one of the highest tsunamis included in history, the village of Nuugaatsiaq (Greenland) destroys in the late evening hours, which causes four dead. Subsequent Tsunami waves surprised the residents when they tried to secure their property.
The YouTube caption added: “Fortunately all three [people in the video] Could escape the Golf just in time. “
The platform said the images were published on 8 September 2017, which corresponded to the date of the above YouTube clip. Licet's credit, Rasmus J., also corresponded to the name in the title of the YouTube video.
