US Postal Service stops the parcel service from China while Trump's trading soup starts

The Postal Service of the United States announced on Tuesday that it had temporarily stopped accepting packages from China and Hong Kong, hours after an order from President Trump came into effect that the tax -free handling of these packages ended.

The United States imports around 3 million packages a day with almost no customs engineering and no tasks collected – with most of them from China. An Executive Order -President Trump that signed on Saturday required that from Tuesday morning every package must contain detailed information about the content and the rate code that applies, as well as the payment of those rates.

The provision for low value plots, known as the minimum rule, was included in a broader order by President Trump who imposed an extra rate of 10 percent for all input from China. But low value packages from China, who previously had no rates at all, are now not only confronted with the rate of 10 percent, but also the many complex rates in each category of goods that have previously continued these shipments.

FedEx and UPS move a large part of those packages and are now running frequent freight flights from China to the United States to wear them. Neither of the companies has responded to questions about how they will process the new rules.

Shein and Temu are two of the largest e-commerce companies that connect cheap Chinese factories with millions of American households. Shein refused to comment on the new rules for small packages on Tuesday, while Temu has not yet responded to questions sent on Monday.

The rapid expansion of e-commerce has long set a dilemma for the customs agency, the customs and border protection of the United States. Customs officials already started to be overwhelmed by small e-commerce packages in 2016, when they convinced the congress and the Obama government to increase the minimum value for customs inspection and rate collection to $ 800, from $ 200.

By increasing the tax -free minimum, millions of American households have enabled to buy very cheap goods from China. But American manufacturers in sectors such as textiles and clothing have argued that the import of small packages to continue to undermine their ability to continue to continue in business.

The number of tax-free packages has risen 10-time since 2016. The congress debates in the past year how the rule can be changed on tax -free packages. President Trump has argued that allowing so many packages in the United States with little or no inspection has created a management for Fentanyl, a synthetic opioid and related supplies to enter the United States.
