US may not be able to make a scenario to end the war in Ukraine, says Rubio

(Reuters) -The United States will continue to try to create a scenario to end the Russian war in Ukraine, but that may not be possible, the US State Secretary Marco Rubio told CBS on Sunday.

“If peace will not be possible here and this will continue as a war, people will continue to die with thousands … Unfortunately we can assault there, but we don't want to assault there,” said Rubio in an interview with “Face the Nation”.

European leaders will accompany Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zenskiy to meet Donald Trump on Monday in Washington, and try to strengthen him when US President Ukraine insists on accepting a quick peace agreement after the meeting of Trump with the Russian leader Vladimir Putin.

“There are things that have been discussed as part of this meeting that are potential for breakthroughs that are potential for progress,” said Rubio, adding that subjects for discussion security guarantees for Ukraine would include.

According to sources, Trump and Putin discussed proposals for Russia to renounce small bags of occupied Ukraine in exchange for Ukraine who travels a strip of reinforced country in the east and freeze the front lines elsewhere.

Rubio said that both parties should make concessions if a peace agreement would be concluded.
