Ukrainian commander says that North Korean soldiers have sued his unity 'as in a film of the Second World War' during the battle

    • Ukrainian troops have fought against North Korean troops in the Russian region of Kursk.

    • A Ukrainian commander described how it was like to face them in battle.

    • He said the North Koreans would load forward if something were from a film and 'cannon food'.

North Korean soldiers who fought in Russia missed enough training for the war in which they were thrown and treated by the Russians as 'cannon food', a Ukrainian commander who went to fight them against them.

Konoval Ihor Ihorovych, commander of the reserve group of the 4th company of the 33rd Assault Regiment, said that North Korean behavior was sometimes confusing in the fight and reminded of earlier wars.

About 11,000 North Korean troops were deployed last fall in the West -Cursk region of Russia to help Moscow to ward off enemy troops and to recapture territory that Ukraine had granted a stunning invasion there in August.

Ihorovych, calling sign Sahara, joined an operation at the beginning of January to take Makhnovka, a scheme in Kursk. The goal was to secure key positions and wait for reinforcements.

He remembered how his soldiers came across Noord -Korean troops who ran back and forth inexplicably between buildings while they were beaten by artillery fire at about 500 meters from the Ukrainians.

Ihorovych said he wasn't sure why the North Koreans ran. He speculated that they either did not know what to do or that there was no commander on the floor with them. Even Ukrainian soldiers in an adjacent unity were surprised by their strange behavior.

The war in Ukraine is a completely different kind of conflict than what the North Korean troops have trained for, and they are suspected of having only received limited training from the Russians.

“In a fight they would simply load forward from the tree line, such as in a film from the Second World War,” Ihorovych recalled. Attacks during the Second World War were often a high victim. He said his troops killed a number of North Korean soldiers they saw running their positions.

Ihorovych said his unit completed their operation without taking losses, adding that the North Koreans are 'cannon food'.

His description of their combat style falls in line with an assessment of the Biden administration, which said at the end of December that the Noord -Koreans used human wave tactics that were not very effective.

A spokesperson for the White House said at the time that Russian and North Korean military leaders considered the troops as “replaceable” and sent them to “hopeless attacks” against Ukrainian defenses. Prior to their efforts at Russia, the Pyongyang army had not experienced major combat operations in decades.

The military leadership of the Pentagon and Ukraine have described the North Koreans as well-disciplined, competent and capable soldiers who are skilled in fighting, but who are new in modern warfare and are unprepared for his challenges.

According to Nieuwe Western Intelligence Assessments, Pyongyang takes on heavy losses – an estimated 4,000 troops are killed or wounded in Russia. The Ministry of Defense of Great -Britain said last month that the high percentage of North Korean losses in such a short period has a negative influence on their ability to perform combat operations in Kursk.

Conflict analysts of the Institute for the Study of War Think Tank warned in mid -January that if this trend continues, Pyongyang could lose all the troops it has used in just a few weeks. North Korean troops, in particular, have not been seen in the front lines in weeks, so that speculation was fueled, they were withdrawn in the midst of heavy losses.

Russia and Noord -Korea have strengthened their defenses during the Ukraine war and signed a pact in the summer that military aid has promised if a country is attacked. In addition to soldiers, Pyongyang has also sent artillery scales and rockets in Moscow.
