Former President Donald Trump has reignited tensions within Trumpworld over a recent campaign endorsement.
This time, Trump’s support of Alabama Senate hopeful Katie Britt has enraged his allies after the ex-president withdrew his endorsement from Britt’s primary challenger to the GOP, Rep. Mo Brooks.
“Katie Britt, on the other hand, is a fearless America First Warrior,” Trump wrote in a late Friday night statement. “Katie is an incredible fighter for the people of Alabama.”
Mo Brooks barely lasts in Alabama Senate race with Katie Britt
Still, that endorsement didn’t leave all of Trumpworld willing to back Britt.
“This is a blow,” Fox News host Mark Levin wrote on Trump’s Truth Social platform. “Very disappointing. Britt is a McConnell-backed RINO hailed by the head of the Alabama Democrat Party. I hope Mo [Brooks] can take it off. The Lord knows we need his Conservative vote and vote in the Senate.”
The Fox News presenter would later double down and Britt a “disasterciting an article by Breitbart claiming that the now Trump-backed candidate “surrounds himself” with “never Trumpers.”
Similarly, former Trump spokesperson Katrina Pierson shared that same article while taunting Trump, to write“This Katie Britt? Of course he did.”
These Ultra-MAGA candidates found out that love for Trump is not a golden ticket
It didn’t stop there.
Pro-Trump Writer Ryan Girdusky Responded to Trump’s Endorsement, tweet“Oh fuck off. Mo is the one.”
A spokesman for the Britt campaign did not respond to The Daily Beast’s request for comment Sunday afternoon.
Within Trump’s approval of Britt on Friday night, the former president acknowledged criticism from hardcore MAGA Republicans.
“The opposition says Katie is close to Mitch McConnell, but actually she isn’t — in fact, she believes McConnell put Mike Durant in the race to stop her, which is entirely possible,” Trump said of Durant, an Army veteran who finished third in the first qualifying round.
Britt’s approval comes at a critical time for both campaigns. The first runoff is in less than two weeks after neither candidate managed to secure 50 percent of the vote in the primary.
In April 2021, Trump endorsed Brooks, only to withdraw the approval after Brooks urged Trump supporters to press ahead with claims that the 2020 election had been “stolen.”
In his statement on Friday, Trump accused Brooks, who is being billed by Britt as a candidate for the Republican establishment, of “waking up” during his meeting in Cullman, Alabama.
“Instead of exposing voter fraud in the election, Mo lectured the crowd of 63,000 and said, ‘Leave that behind, leave that behind’, meaning you basically forget the rigged election and going to the future,” Trump furiously. “His words caused me to withdraw my approval, and Mo has been wanting it ever since – but I can’t give it to him!”
Since the Trump statement, Brooks has fired back, claiming that Trump had been “conned” by established Republican types, including Senate Leader Mitch McConnell.
“This is weird: The last time Donald Trump spoke about Katie Britt, he said she was unfit for the Senate,” Brooks said. “Donald Trump is the only man in American politics who can be ripped off twice by Mitch McConnell in a Senate race in Alabama.”
This isn’t the first time Trumpworld has pushed back hard on a Mar-a-Lago endorsement.
Trumpworld Collapses After Trump Dr. Oz. endorses
After Trump Dr. Mehmet Oz, Trumpworld’s allies had a meltdown over the former president who supported the Turkish-American TV star.
“Wait,” said a pro-Trump pundit. “Is There Something Conservative About Dr. Oz?”
