(Reuters) -s President Donald Trump said on Saturday that he will give an executive order to require the identification of the voter of each voter.
“The voter ID must be part of any mood. No exceptions!
“Also no post-voices, except for those who are very ill, and the distant army,” he added.
Trump has long been questioning the American election system and continues to claim that his loss of 2020 for Democratic President Joe Biden was the result of widespread fraud. The president and his Republican allies have also made unfounded claims about widespread voices by non-citizens, who are illegal and rarely occurs.
For years he has also called for the end of electronic voting machines, instead pushing for the use of paper ballot papers and hand counts – a process that, according to election officers, is time -consuming, expensive and much less accurate than counting machines.
Earlier in August, Trump promised to issue an executive order to terminate the use of post-in-venture and voting machines prior to the interim elections of 2026, however, federal elections are managed at state level and it is unclear whether the president has the constitutional authority to implement such a measure.
The elections of 3 November 2026 will be the first national referendum on Trump's domestic and foreign policy since he returned to power in January. Democrats will try to break the grip of the Republicans on both the House of Representatives and the Senate to block Trump's domestic agenda.
