LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Police have arrested a woman wanted for allegedly stealing $200,000 worth of jewelry and other items from two tourists while driving a car on the Las Vegas Strip while intoxicated and without a license plate, 8 News Now investigators have learned.
Police arrested Cassandra Tovar, 31, after a traffic stop on the Las Vegas Strip on Friday, Sept. 6, they said. An officer pulled over Tovar after seeing her driving a car without license plates and appearing to be intoxicated. When they checked Tovar's information, officers learned she was wanted for theft and other charges.
On April 23, 2023, a man called police and said he was the victim of a robbery, the documents said. The man said he and another man were staying at the MGM Signature Towers when they met three women at a bar and later went to their room.
One of the women made a suggestion [one of the men] for sexual intercourse and stated it was $1,000 per person, the documents said, “[The victim] stated that he told her he did not pay for sex. They stayed outside on the balcony talking and [one woman] brought him a drink in a shot glass. They encouraged him [the victim] to drink it. After [he] drank it up, he declared that he had passed [out] and remembered nothing else.”
The men later woke up to find all of their jewelry and other belongings missing. A toxicology test later showed “several controlled substances” in the sample.
Police found surveillance footage and a car registered to one of the women, they said. The woman later admitted drinking with the men and stealing the jewelry.
In the woman's home, the officers said they found several expensive watches, diamond bracelets and clothing. After arresting the woman, they located Tovar as a possible second suspect in the theft.
Police attempted to contact Tovar but were unsuccessful, and a judge subsequently signed an arrest warrant for her.
During Tovar's initial court appearance, Las Vegas Justice Court Judge Daniel Westmeyer set bail at $20,000. Tovar remained in the Clark County Detention Center through Thursday. A preliminary hearing was scheduled for November.
According to the documents, prosecutors have not filed charges in connection with Tovar's traffic stop. Two other women are facing charges in connection with the 2023 theft.
