Top US House Republican Johnson says that Trump Agenda is not confronted with a setback

Washington (Reuters) -The Republican -controlled American house of representatives remains on the goal of passing the tax assessment of President Donald Trump around the 26 May Memorial Day Holiday, said speaker Mike Johnson on Monday and reporters told that there was no “setback” in promoting legislation.

“Everyone stays in close coordination about the urgency of the hour, and we try to get it done. If it is not done for Memorial Day, it will be shortly thereafter. But our time schedule is in pace,” Johnson said reporters in Capitool, USA.

The Republican of Louisiana acknowledged that the timetable is “very ambitious”, but said that house republicans have not had to deal with a setback, despite the postponement of committee meetings needed to promote the individual programs of the bill. Republican legislators are divided on proposals, including cutbacks on programs for social safety net, including the Medicaid Healthcare program for Americans with a lower income.

“It is not a setback at all. In fact, I find it very productive,” said Johnson. “We prefer to take another week and do it just right than rush and have to adjust it later.”

Johnson said that an important meeting of the White House with Trump had to end up early due to other events, which prevented decisions about some aspects of the bill.
