Tiktok is flooded with racist AI videos generated by Google's VEO 3

Tiktok notes that both technology and human moderators use to identify rule -breaking content. However, the volume of uploads makes timely moderation difficult. While the racist videos have collected many views, a Tiktok spokesperson told Ars that more than half of the accounts mentioned in the MediaMatters report were forbidden for policy violations before the report was published, and the rest have now been removed.

As far as Google is concerned, it has an extensive forbidden user policy that prohibits the use of its services to promote hate sows, intimidation, bullying, intimidation and abuse. The videos discovered by Mediamatters all seem to fall under one or more of these categories. In a perfect world, VEO 3 would refuse to make these videos, but vagueness in the prompt and inability of the AI to understand the subtleties of racist tropics (that is, the use of monkeys instead of people in some videos) make it easy to circumvent the rules.

Tiktok, the world's leading social video colossia, is a natural place for these videos to spread. However, it is not exclusive for Tiktok. X (formerly Twitter) has built up a reputation for very limited moderation, leading to an explosion of hateful AI content. This problem can also get worse quickly. Google has plans to integrate VEO 3 into YouTube shorts, making it easier for similar content to spread on YouTube.

Tiktok and Google have clearly prohibited on this content, which should have prevented it from being seen millions of times on social media. However, the enforcement of that policy is missing. Tiktok is apparently unable to keep the flow of video -uploads, and Google's Google does not seem sufficient to block this content. We have contacted Google to inquire about the safety features of VEO 3, but have not yet heard.

As long as generative AI exists, people have used it to create inflammatory and racist content. Google and others always talk about the guardrails to prevent abuse, but they cannot catch everything. The realism of VEO 3 makes it especially attractive for those who want to spread hateful stereotypes. Perhaps all crash barriers in the world will not stop.
