Former New Jersey governor Chris Christie said former President Donald Trump kept secret documents seized at Mar-a-Lago as a “trophy.”
“He wanted to keep these documents as a trophy. That’s what they were, more than anything,” Christie said on Sunday This week’s ABC news.
In August, the FBI raided Trump’s Florida estate and found 11 sets of classified information, including some marked top secret.
Christie refuted speculation that Trump used the documents as “leverage” for future political gain.
“I think it’s much more likely that it’s a trophy that he’s walking around and saying, ‘Look, I’ve got this. I’ve got this secret document or that,'” said Christie, adding that Trump can’t believe he’s no longer Chairman.
Christie said Trump kept the documents “to show to anyone in Mar-a-Lago or Bedminster over the summer” and to reflect on his time in the White House.
“The replica Resolute Desk in Mar-a-Lago and all that other stuff are things that, you know, reassure his disappointment and his disbelief that he’s not president anymore,” Christie said.
