The body of missing Pensacola man Vernon Flowers Jr. discovered by Escambia County deputies

    The Escambia County Sheriff's Office announced Tuesday that they have arrested Vernon Flowers Jr. had discovered the man who had been missing for almost a month.

    The ECSO says the body of 69-year-old “Bubba” Flowers Jr. was discovered and that police informed his immediate family. Department spokesperson Morgan Lewis said it is now the medical examiner's case.

    It does not appear that foul play was involved in Flowers' death.

    Original purple warning signal: ECSO says Vernon Flowers Jr. has been missing for 17 days

    On October 14, ECSO initiated a Local Purple Alert for Flowers after he was last seen on the 5500 block of Perkins Street on September 28, saying he was likely in need of medical attention.

    The Florida Purple Alert is used to assist in locating missing adults who suffer from a mental or cognitive disability other than Alzheimer's disease or a dementia-related condition; an intellectual disability or developmental disorder; a brain injury; other physical, mental or emotional disabilities not related to substance abuse; or a combination of these and the disappearance of which constitutes a credible threat of imminent danger or serious bodily harm.
