Taiwan, democracy and development are China's 'red lines', Xi tells Biden

BEIJING (Reuters) – Chinese President Xi Jinping told his U.S. counterpart Joe Biden that the issues of Taiwan, democracy, human rights and the right to development are “red lines” for China and should not be disputed, official state media Xinhua said on Sunday .

Xi warned the United States against getting involved in bilateral disputes over islands and reefs in the South China Sea or “supporting or fueling the impulse to issue provocations” in that region.

China and the United States would be in turmoil or even see a setback in their rivalry with each other, but could make significant progress by treating each other as partners and friends, Xi told Biden on the sidelines of the Asia Pacific summit -Pacific Economic Forum in Peru: according to Xinhua.
