(Reuters) – Elon Musk's satellite broadband company Starlink said on Tuesday it is complying with an order from Brazil's top judge Alexandre de Moraes to block access to social media platform X in the country.
In a post on X, Starlink said it had filed a lawsuit with Brazil's Supreme Court, citing the “gross illegality” of Moraes' order, which froze Starlink's finances and prevented the company from conducting any financial transactions in Brazil.
“Regardless of Starlink’s illegal treatment by freezing our funds, we comply with the order to block access to X in Brazil,” the X post said.
Starlink added that it continues to pursue all legal avenues, as do others who agree that the “recent judge orders violate the Brazilian Constitution.”
Starlink on Monday refused to comply with Moraes' order to block all internet providers from domestic access to X.
Tensions between Brazil and Musk's business empire further rose when Brazil's telecom regulator threatened to punish Starlink after the Supreme Court ruled in favor of the controversial decision to ban social network X in the country.
