The characters of Spike Lee say, “Wake up!” In “Do the Right Thing”, “School Daze” and “Malcolm X” – and now the director has also placed the characteristic line in his weekend MSNBC appearance.
Speaking with 'Politics Nation' host Rev. Al Sharpton on Saturday to promote the Denzel Washington film 'highest 2 lowest', Lee said that the federal law enforcement takeover of the Trump government in Washington, DC, would not go the same if the president would try it in New York City.

“This country is now … these are bananas, and this and this man trying to take over DC and just arm these things,” Lee said. And I mean, he's going to think twice [if he tries] However, to do that in New York. The boogie down? Harlem? “
Sharpton agreed and said it would be “a different kind of reaction.”

Legend van Glee replied Lee: “Oh yes. It will be very different.”
Sharpton asked Lee what he thought of Trump who mobilized federal agents and troops of the National Guard “in heavy black and brown cities with black mayors”, giving Lee the authoritarian law enforcement in his films.
“They arm these other agencies of the US government,” Lee said more seriously. “And this is – this is a scary time. The last word in 'School Daze' … My brother … Lawrence Fishburne says,” Waking up! ” And the first line in 'Do the right thing' you know – Samuel Jackson says, “Wake up.” So we have to wake up.
“Highest 2 lowest” is now in theaters.
