Sirens sounded at 1:30 PM (0530 GMT) to mark the start of the mandatory street evacuation crimes, those villages and towns in the northern Taiwan effectively close for 30 minutes.
In the Ximending shopping area of Taipei, tourists were overwhelmed by the siren while they were ushered in indoors and underground to look for coverage.
During the exercise, the police sent vehicles in Taipei to go to the side of the roads. Some shops and restaurants pulled down shutters and went off lights – steps were aimed at reducing the risk of becoming a target in the case of a nocturnal attack.
China, whose government views Democratic Taiwan ruled as his territory over the rejection of the island, has increased his military pressure over the past five years.
Taiwan president Lai Ching-Te rejects the sovereignty of Beijing and says that only the people of Taiwan can determine their future.
China has never renounced the use of violence to get Taiwan under control.
