Ron Johnson gets old promise brutally reversed by local newspaper

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reminded Senator Ron Johnson (R-Wis.) of his earlier pledge to serve only two terms as it urged voters to pack him in the 2022 midterm elections in a scathing editorial published Wednesday.

The newspaper’s editors broke down on exactly why it believes Johnson is “Wisconsin’s worst political representative since the infamous Senator Joseph McCarthy.”

It tore apart the Donald Trump loyalist, who faces a reported tight race against Democratic Lt. Governor Mandela Barnes, as “an election rigger who recklessly promoted Trump’s 2020 lies” and a “scientific fabulist” who baselessly questioned COVID-19 vaccines and spread pandemic misinformation. Johnson was also criticized for trying to rewrite “the sordid history” of the deadly US Capitol riots.

The publication has previously followed Johnson in an equally tantalizing way.

“You’ll find Johnson doesn’t cite a long track record in his reelection ads,” the board wrote. “Instead, he and his supporters have attacked his opponent – a black man – as ‘different’ and ‘dangerous’.”

Johnson was first elected to the Senate in 2010.

“Johnson has promised not to serve more than two terms in the past,” the board concluded. “Voters should hold him to that promise in November.”
