On Friday, Rivian issued a recall of more than 12,000 electric vehicles due to possible loose suspension components. The issue affects model year 2022 Rivian R1T trucks, R1S SUVs and some Rivian EDV vans – a total of 12,212 EVs.

In mid-August, Rivian discovered that an upper wishbone of one of his vehicles had come loose from the steering knuckle. The company began an investigation and by the end of September had identified six reports that may have been related to this problem that had accumulated during production.

According to Rivian’s safety report, production data cannot confirm that the two suspension components on each vehicle are properly tightened. That can throw off wheel alignment or possibly even separate the joint.

As a result, Rivian will inspect all vehicles that may be affected and properly quote any vehicles that are not within specification. Rivian owners can expect to be notified “on or before November 24.”
