Rep. Eric Swalwell expertly calls out Rep. Jim Jordan’s Jan. 6 hypocrisy

Representative Eric Swalwell (D-Calif.) called out the hypocrisy of Representative Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) at a Judiciary Subcommittee meeting Thursday.

Earlier this week, Jordan, who chairs the House Judiciary Committee, issued a series of subpoenas as part of an ongoing investigation into what the GOP says is the mistreatment of parents protesting the school board’s policies. He also issued three subpoenas for testimony related to the Department of Homeland Security’s now-disbanded Disinformation Governance Board.

While discussing subcommittee compliance at the Supervisory Responsiveness and Accountability Subcommittee meeting, Swalwell remarked to Subcommittee Chairman Ben Cline (R-Va.) that he found Jordan’s views on subpoenas “quite rich” since the Ohio Republican seems to accept the “rules.” for you, not for me’ approach.

“I think it’s pretty rich that we’re talking subpoenas compliance under a full committee chairman who had absolutely no subpoenas during the last Congress,” Swalwell said, noting that Jordan refused to cooperate with subpoenas from de Jan. 6 commission.

Swalwell noted that Jordan’s subpoenas come from a chairman “who himself did not comply with the January 6 commission’s request,” and flashed the legal document on a screen, followed by a photo of the oath that he, Jordan and every other member of Congress signs upon taking office.

“[Jordan] was asked over and over, “You witnessed a crime – you witnessed the greatest crime ever committed, with the most criminals charged in America.” Are you assisting your country, are you complying with that subpoena?’” Swalwell said.

“No compliance. Crickets. Absolute opposition to the subpoena,” he added.
