Recount confirms that Lauren Boebert narrowly held on to her seat in the House

DENVER (AP) — An automatic recount Monday confirmed that Republican Rep. Lauren Boebert has won her re-election bid against Democrat Adam Frisch. The blood-curdling race showed that the congresswoman’s belligerent style is wearying voters in her conservative Colorado district.

Secretary of State Jena Griswold announced the results on Monday evening. Frisch received a total of four votes in the recount, far from enough to close a 500+ vote gap with Boebert. Aspen City Councilman Frisch had already given up the race last month after the first count put him just short of the state’s ballpark for a mandatory recount.

Few expected the race to come to such a small margin. In her first term, Boebert shot to national prominence for her staunch support for former President Donald Trump, aggressive use of social media, and willingness to engage in personal feuds with Democratic representatives.

Frisch countered what she called her “anger management,” saying he would not support US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi as party leader, describing herself as an impartial problem solver. Few gave him much of a shot in the conservative 3rd Congressional District, which borders some famously liberal ski towns but is dominated by vast, less glamorous and high-energy parts of rural Colorado.
