Police are looking for driver in crash that killed passenger

    WOODBRIDGE – Police are looking for the driver of a car involved in a single-car crash Friday that left a passenger dead, authorities said.

    The driver is believed to have fled the scene.

    Authorities continue to investigate a single-car crash that killed a North Plainfield man Mario Ortiz Bonilla, 47, said Middlesex County Prosecutor Yolanda Ciccone and Woodbridge Police Department Director Robert Hubner.

    According to the District Attorney's Office, police responded to the area around Route 9 and Green Street in the township at 9:05 a.m. Friday after reporting a crash. At the scene, authorities found a 2017 Kia Sportage occupied only by Bonilla, the front passenger.

    Bonilla succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene, officials said.

    An investigation led by Detective Jeffery Horvath of the Woodbridge Police Department and Detective Matthew Colonna of the Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office determined that the driver of the Kia Sportage fled the scene.

    The investigation is active and continuing. Anyone with information is asked to call Horvath at the Woodbridge Police Department at 732-306-5982 or Colonna at the Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office at 732-745-3354.
