While he spoke with reporters in the Oval Office, Donald Trump made his first public comments about the shooting. “It's a shame. Terrible something. Terrible thing. Things like this take place. And we will say more about it later, “Trump said in one viral clip Circulating on social media.
When reporters are later pressed about whether another massive shooting can lead to changes in arms legislation, Trump doubled his defense of the second amendment.

“I am a strong proponent of the second amendment,” he said. “These things are terrible, but the gun does not do the shooting – the people do it. It is, you know, an expression that is probably used too often. I will tell you that it is a shame.”

“As far as legislation is concerned, this has been going on for a long time,” he said. “I have the obligation to protect the second amendment. I ran on the second amendment.”

In the aftermath of the tragedy, many criticized the reaction of Trump on social media.
“Even no more thoughts and prayers, just 'Go fuck yourself',” a user who was posted in response to the viral clip.
“Moved of thoughts and prayers to just say that I don't care. Absolutely disgusting,” said David Hogg, survivor of Parkland and the current DNC Vice chairman.

“Strange how he was not so casual to be shot himself,” wrote another.

“Trump responds to a campus that shoots as if it is a rain delay at a golf tournament,” someone else added.

“He said more about Tesla dealers,” was another message.

“Thank good ones, they only shot a couple of university children and no Teslas were injured,” said this person.

“Sorry for the dead people, but I love weapons.” Their axis is not even cold yet.

“Trump's” things like this take place “is a gut pot for the families of victims,” said another, referring to NPR data that showed that the US had a gun dying rate of 4.31 per 100,000 people in 2021. “Leadership required action, not apathy,” they said.

“This has been going on for a long time” … so let's try not to change anything, “said another.

And finally, this person summarized an important truth: “Only land on the planet who has this problem.”
