Black teen handcuffed by police while white boy walked free speaks out: ‘treating him like he was superior to me’

On Don Lemon Tonight Wednesday, 14-year-old Kye and his mother Eboné appeared to speak about the altercation Kye had gotten into a New Jersey mall on Saturday. Video of the fight between Kye and the older, taller white teen went viral as when officers arrived to break up with the white boy, the white boy was escorted to a couch while Kye, who is black, was tackled and handcuffed while both officers took a knee had pressed against his back. At one point, the other boy got up from the couch and bent over Kye, looking down at him as he was handcuffed. “I felt like the police agreed with what the older boy said was bigger and stronger and superior. I felt like they agreed,” Kye said. was superior to me, and agreed that he knew he was superior or that he thought he was superior.” The viral video has understandably outraged people over the actions of the officers. New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy said he was “deeply disturbed” by it. Eboné believes that unfortunately what happened was due to race. “I hate it to say this, but if it wasn’t for the race then what is it?” asked Eboné. “Why did they attack my son and not the other child? Why were they so aggressive towards my son and not the other child? Why is the other child looking at my son, humiliated and handcuffed? It just doesn’t make sense. It makes me angry.”
