Nvidia Tweaks H20 -Chip for China to beat American export controls: Sources

Story: Nvidia is said to be planning to release a reduced version of his H20 artificial intelligence chip for China in the coming two months.

Three sources told Reuters that the move follows the American export restrictions on the original model.

And that the American chip maker has informed large Chinese customers and tells them that it wants to release the adapted chip in July.

The reduced H20 represents Nvidia's last attempt to preserve its presence in one of the most crucial markets.

Despite the growing efforts of Washington to limit the access from China to advanced semiconductor technology.

The H20 was the most powerful AI chip from Nvidia for the Chinese sale.

But it was effectively blocked from the market last month.

American officials have informed the company that the product would require an export license.

One source said that Nvidia has formulated new technical thresholds, which will guide the development of the modified designs.

Add to that the specifications will result in considerable downgrades of the original H20.

    Nvidia refused to comment.

And the US trade department did not immediately respond to a request for comments.

China was good for $ 17 billion in turnover, or 13% of the total turnover of Nvidia, during the financial year that ended in January.
