John Force, the most successful driver in NHRA Drag Racing history, has taken another step in his recovery from a traumatic brain injury he suffered in a car explosion and collision with two concrete walls on June 23 at Virginia Motorsports Park.
According to a press release from John Force Racing on Tuesday afternoon, the 75-year-old Funny Car legend has been released from the Barrow Neurological Institute in Arizona, where he has been rehabilitating.
Here's the gist of it, straight from JFR:
According to family members, the 16-time Funny Car champion will continue to work with therapists who specialize in such injuries, but treatment will now take place on an outpatient basis in California.
“He can finally sleep in his own bed,” said daughter Ashley Hood, who, along with sisters Brittany, Courtney and Adria and mother Laurie, were a constant presence during the Hall of Fame driver and car owner’s hospital stays in Virginia and Arizona.
The next phase in the recovery process involves outpatient speech therapy and OTPT (occupational and physical therapy) to address the persistent short-term memory and cognitive problems.
