Newt Gingrich, former Republican House Speaker, floated an innovative idea for a debate between presidential candidates Donald Trump and Kamala Harris. Some Harris supporters were all for it.
While the camps fought over Harris' attempt to keep the microphones on at all times during their Sept. 10 moderated debate on ABC, Gingrich proposed a very different kind of confrontation on Tuesday. (Watch the video below.)
“I personally think Trump should offer to debate her on … C-SPAN and on a no-media basis,” he said on Fox News. “She can ask him questions. He can ask her questions. … I think the country would find it refreshing to actually have … two serious potential leaders talking to each other directly.”

While host Sean Hannity was probably right when he responded, “You know that's not going to happen,” some on the left (and beyond) thought it was a pretty good idea.
“That would actually be great. The prosecutor who gets to direct the criminal,” wrote someone on X, formerly Twitter.

This is the first idea Newt has that I agree with. Let's have Donald Trump confront a former prosecutor in front of America. I'm in. ✋ How about Donald? photo.twitter.com/B5aDY5dhwJ

Yes, we will do that.
