Newark man convicted of providing drugs to teens in exchange for sexual favors

A Newark, New Jersey, man has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for providing narcotics to two teenagers “in exchange for sexual favors,” prosecutors said Friday.

Nafis Wiggins, 26, pleaded guilty in March to two counts of second-degree lure and one count of third-degree possession of a controlled dangerous substance with intent to distribute.

According to investigators, Wiggins provided unspecified drugs to two young victims, ages 14 and 15, on multiple occasions between August 1 and September 28, 2023, after “recruiting and enticing the minors via text message.”

Wiggins, who was 25 at the time, allegedly met the two teens at various locations in Chatham Township and Chatham Borough and “drove them to more secluded areas to use drugs and engage in sexual activity,” Morris County District Attorney Robert Carroll said in a news release.

He was arrested on December 19, 2023, at Cougar Field in Chatham Township, where he was found in possession of a narcotic.

On Thursday, Judge Claudia R. Jones sentenced him to 10 years in prison.

Wiggins must also register as a sex offender and will be under probation supervision for life. This means that he must adhere to the rules and conditions set by the probation officer for at least 15 years after his release.
