Millie Bobby Brown and Chris Pratt Star in the original Netflix film The electric state.
Anthony and Joe Russo nowadays have their hands full with the Marvel films Avengers: Doomsday And Avengers: Secret Warplanned for 2026 and 2027 releases respectively. But we get the chance to see a different, smaller film by the directors this month on Netflix: The electric stateAdapted from the graphic novel by the Swedish artist/designer Simon Stålenhag.
Stålenhag's stunning Surrealistic Neofuturistic art – in his narrative art books, 2014s Stories of the loop and 2016s Things of the flood-Inspired the series 2020 eight episodes Stories of the loopIn which residents of a rural city struggle with strange events thanks to the presence of an underground particle accelerator. That adjustment recorded the mood and tone of the art that it inspired and received emmy nominations for cinematography and special visual effects.
The electric state Was Stålenhag's third such book, published in 2018 and took place in a similar dystopian, destroyed landscape. Sections of text, accompanied by larger artworks, tell the story of a teenage girl named Michelle who has to travel with her robot mate through the country to find her long -lost brother, while being chased by a federal agent. The Russo brothers acquired the rights early and initially to make the film with Universal, but when the studio decided that it would not give the film a theatrical release, Netflix bought the distribution rights.
It is worth noting that the Russo brothers have made several important plot changes of the source material, a decision that the many fans of Stålenhag did not achieve, especially because the first look images have shown that the directors also inspired more of a colorful aesthetics from the nineties than the spooky art that originally took their film.
