Nancy Pelosi’s husband ‘violently assaulted’ at home, House Speaker’s Office says

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s husband, Paul Pelosi, was “violently assaulted” early Friday morning at their San Francisco home, her office said.

According to the Associated Press, he was attacked with a hammer.

Pelosi, 82, “had blunt trauma to his head and body and was treated by doctors for bruises, severe swelling and other injuries,” the AP reported.

“Early this morning, an attacker broke into the Pelosi residence in San Francisco and violently assaulted Mr. Pelosi,” Drew Hammill, spokesperson for Nancy Pelosi, said in a statement. “The attacker is in custody and the motivation for the attack is being investigated.

“Mr. Pelosi has been taken to hospital where he is receiving excellent medical care and is expected to make a full recovery.”

“The Speaker and her family are grateful to first responders and medical professionals and request privacy at this time,” added Hammill.

In a statement, the US Capitol Police said it is assisting the FBI and the San Francisco Police Department in their investigation of the break-in.

“Special agents from the USCP’s California Field Office quickly arrived at the scene, while simultaneously dispatching a team of investigators from the East Coast’s Threat Assessment Section to assist the FBI and the San Francisco Police Department in a joint investigation,” according to the USCP. .

The Pelosi House, which is located in the affluent Pacific Heights neighborhood, has been the target of vandalism. Last year, their garage door was painted with graffiti and unidentified suspects “left a pig’s head on the sidewalk,” the San Francisco police said.

Paul Pelosi was arrested on suspicion of drink-driving after a two-car accident in California’s wine country in May. In August, he pleaded guilty to a felony for drink-driving and was sentenced to five days in prison and three years’ probation.
