Nancy Mace immediately starts a fight with a new transgender colleague

Republican Rep. Nancy Mace introduced a bill weeks after the first openly transgender person was elected to Congress that would ban transgender women from using women's restrooms in the Capitol and House of Representatives offices.

“Biological men do not belong in private women's spaces. Period. Point. End of story,” the congressman wrote in a social media post announcing the resolution.

When questioned on the steps of the Capitol, Mace doubled down and said her action specifically targeted Congresswoman-elect Sarah McBride “and more.” “If we can't do it here, we can't do it anywhere,” Mace said.

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene supported Mace while mishandling McBride, claiming they “are not allowed to use our women's restrooms, our women's gyms, our locker rooms, and our women's designated areas.”

Within an hour, McBride, who made history earlier this month, condemned Mace for “manufacturing culture wars.”

“This is a blatant attempt by far-right extremists to distract from the fact that they have no real solutions to what Americans are facing,” the Delaware state senator said in a statement. a statement. “We should focus on reducing the costs of housing, health care and child care, not on creating culture wars.”

The top Democrat on the House Administration Committee, which determines how things work in the lower legislature and the Capitol, made a similar point.

“I think we have a lot of problems in America,” said New York Rep. Joe Morelle Axios. “I don't think spending time worrying about the toilets is a priority here. I think Nancy Mace needs to focus on other things.”
