Joy Reid's Evening News Show on MSNBC is canceled, part of a far -reaching programming overhaul canceled by Rebecca Kutler, the new president of the network, two people who are familiar with the changes.
The last episode of Mrs. Reid's show, 'The Reidout', is, according to people, planned somewhere for this week, who were not authorized to speak publicly. The show, with in-depth interviews with politicians and other newspaper dishes, has been a fixture of the MSNBC line-up in the last five years.
MSNBC plans to replace Mrs. Reid's program with a show led by a trio anchers: Symone Sanders Townsend, a political commentator and former Democratic strategist; Michael Steele, a former chairman of the Republican National Committee; And Alicia Menendez, the TV journalist, said the people. They are currently hosting 'The Weekend', which is broadcast Saturday and Sunday morning.
A spokesperson for MSNBC, Richard Hudock, refused to comment. Mrs. Reid refused to comment.
The programming shake is the first major change from Mrs. Kutler, who was appointed president this month. Mrs. Kutler has drawn up a new programming setup to start the reviews of the network, which the rival CNN has better than the manager of the old reviews, Fox News.
Other major changes are expected at MSNBC. In January, Rachel Maddow, the most famous anchor of the network, returned to hosting her 9-hour show five days a week during the first 100 days of the Trump administration after he was only scaled back on Monday. At the time, the network said that Alex Wagner, who had organized the show of 9 p.m. four days a week, would return at the end of April.
That is no longer the case. Instead, MSNBC is planning to appoint a new anchor to fill the place of Mrs. Wagner, the two people said. A likely candidate for that hour is Jen Psaki, a former press secretary of the White House in the Biden administration, who organizes shows at noon and 8 p.m. on Monday, the people said, although it adds that this decision was not completed .
Mrs. Wagner, who did not immediately respond to a request for comment, is expected to stay at MSNBC as a correspondent on-Air.
Puck and Variety previously reported on some aspects of MSNBC's planned reorganization.
Mrs. Reid has long been one of the most prominent anchors in MSNBC. She was named Anchor of MSNBC's 7 pm in 2020 after she had been served as a host of 'Am Joy' since 2016, a weekend talk show on the network. Cesar Conde, the chairman of NBCUIVERSAL NEWS GROUP, which included NBC News, MSNBC, CNBC and Telemundo.
MSNBC is separated from that group, the result of a company spider -off planned by the Kabelgigant Comcast, the parent company of NBCUIVERSALLE. MSNBC will participate in most other cable channels from Comcast, including CNBC and USA Network, in a new company led by the veteran NBCuiversal Executive Mark Lazarus. Although Mrs. Kutler informed Mr Lazarus about the changes, he was not involved in the details of the programming revision, one of the people said.
MSNBC also looks beyond the existing schedule of anchors of the network to fill in its programming setup. MSNBC is considering on-Air Gasthost positions for Eugene Daniels, a co-author of Policro's influential PlayBook newsletter, and Melissa Murray, a professor at New York University School of Law that would supplement their current jobs, said the other person known Is with the changes.
