Minneapolis pizzeria suddenly closes its Uptown location

After 14 years in business, Mesa Pizza, known for its Macaroni and Cheese pizza, has abruptly closed its restaurant in Minneapolis' Uptown neighborhood.

The final night of service was Halloween, a one-night boon for costumed partygoers, with the impending closure announced around lunchtime on Friday.

“It is with heavy hearts that we unfortunately have to announce that we are closing,” reads a post from Mesa Pizza on Instagram, set to the soundtrack of Semisonic’s “Closing Time.”

“It certainly wasn't an easy decision, but all good things must come to an end… It was an honor to serve the uptown community. From the drunk person needing a piece of mac to the pregnant mother [who] Needs a piece of mac. We really appreciate you all.”

Mesa Pizza also operates locations in Minneapolis' Dinkytown neighborhood and in Iowa City, according to its website.

Mesa representatives did not respond to a request for comment on whether these locations would be affected by the Uptown change.

Dinkytown restaurant staff said they were unsure if the store would remain open. However, it was still open on Saturday, November 1.
