Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT) was furious with people who mocked Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY) After falling while walking through a Senate building, he posted a tweet railing “no decent person… should mock the fall of an 83 year old” – but he himself is guilty of a similar crime.

McConnell fell this week as he walked through the basement of the Senate Russell Building, the moment captured on video by activists who tried to ask him questions about ICE raids.

After the video was ridiculed – including from the right – McConnell's former chief of staff was ridiculed Josh Holmes tweeted a lengthy thread defending his former boss' legacy.

Lee shared Holmes' tweets and added his own commentary.

“No decent person — and certainly not a conservative person — should mock the fall of an 83-year-old,” Lee wrote. “That was heartbreaking, and the thought that anyone would find it funny is hard to fathom.”

However, as other social media users were quick to point out, Lee struck a very different tone in July when he tweeted a photo of the former president. Joe Biden stumbling on the stairs to Air Force One.

Lee has a history of sharp and controversial social media posts in recent years, most notably with his “@BasedMikeLee” account.

In June, he was loudly criticized for several tweets he posted that were seen as callously mocking the targeted shootings of two Democratic Minnesota lawmakers and their spouses and baselessly blaming the shootings on the left. He later deleted the tweets.
