A man from New Jersey was killed in a hit-and-run with “multiple vehicles” on Friday evening, the authorities said.
The incident took place on the Garden State Parkway in Middletown Township, the New Jersey State Police said in a press release on Saturday.
Officials say that a Honda pilot drove south in the Express Lanes of the Parkway near Milepost 112.8 just before 6 pm on Friday.
While the Honda was moving, the passenger of the front left the vehicle to the busy highway.
The passenger, later identified as the 33-year-old Jose Cerda-Stevez, from Plainfield, was subsequently hit by “several unknown vehicles that did not stop on the scene,” officials said.
Cerda-Stevez died of his injuries, the police said.
It was not immediately clear why he left the moving vehicle.
The State Police now asks for help from the public in the research.
Anyone who may have witnessed the vehicles that have hit the victim or the events before or after is encouraged to contact the Holmdel Station Detective Bureau on 732-441-4500 EXT. 7417.
