Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) on Sunday made light of former President and current Republican nominee Donald Trump's offensive claim that his Democratic rival in the 2024 election, Vice President Kamala Harris, is “mentally disabled.”
Trump falsely claimed at a rally this weekend that “Kamala is mentally retarded,” that President Joe Biden “became mentally retarded, Kamala was born that way” and that “when you think about it, only a mentally retarded person could have let this happen . to our country.”
CNN's Jake Tapper questioned Graham about the moment, telling the Trump loyalist, “So first of all, there are real people with mental disabilities, and that's insulting to them. Second, Vice President Kamala Harris is not mentally retarded.”
“No,” Graham agreed, adding, “I just think she's crazy liberal.”
Tapper asked Graham about Trump's rhetoric.
Graham threw up his hands, shrugged his shoulders and replied, “I think it's better to prosecute the case that her policies are destroying the country.” They are crazy liberal.”
Graham later said of Harris, “I'm not saying she's crazy. I say your party and your policies are crazy.”
“Well, that's not my policy,” Tapper clarified.
