Kamala Harris' blunt response to rally heckler who criticized Donald Trump

Kamala Harris was interrupted by a heckling man during a speech at a Labor Day campaign rally at the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local #5 training facility in Pittsburgh.

After an introduction by Joe Biden, who praised his decision as 2020 nominee to select her as his vice president as “the best decision I've made as president of the United States of America,” Harris spent much of her time arguing that an administration under her would be more pro-worker than her opponent, Donald Trump.

“While we fight to move forward, Donald Trump is trying to pull us back, even back to a time before workers had the freedom to organize,” she said.

As one member of the crowd shouted, “He’s going to jail,” Harris quickly responded, “Well, the courts will handle that, and we’ll handle November, how about that?” she said, laughing, to a chorus of applause.

“We will handle November, and the courts will handle the rest, but we are not going back,” she said, as the crowd chanted.

Last week, Jack Smith filed a superseding indictment against the former president in his federal election suppression case, an updated version of the charges against the 78-year-old following the Supreme Court ruling on presidential immunity. Trump faces four federal charges in the case. He has pleaded not guilty to the charges, claiming the case was politically motivated by the Biden administration.

In addition to his other legal troubles, he faces up to four years in prison for each of the 34 counts of fraud he was convicted of in the Stormy Daniels hush-money case. However, a judge could give Trump a suspended sentence later this month. After the Supreme Court’s ruling on immunity, Trump’s lawyers are hoping to have the sentence stayed and the case dismissed.

Trump, who has gained notoriety since Harris took over the 2024 presidential race, did not campaign on Sunday and Monday. Instead, he took to Truth Social to wish his supporters a happy Labor Day while taking aim at his opponent.

“Happy Labor Day to all our American workers who are shining examples of hard work and ingenuity. Under Comrade Kamala Harris, all Americans are suffering this holiday weekend – gas prices are high, transportation costs are up, and grocery prices are skyrocketing. We cannot continue to live under this weak and failed 'leadership,'” he wrote.
