MSNBC said on Monday that Jen Psaki, the former press secretary of the White House, who has become one of the most prominent hosts in the network, would anchor a nocturnal weekly show in prime time.
Mrs. Psaki, 46, will organize a show at 9 p.m. from Tuesday to Friday, to replace Alex Wagner, an old political journalist who has anchored that hour since 2022, according to a memo of Staff members of Rebecca Kutler, President of MSNBC. Mrs. Wagner remains on-Air at MSNBC as correspondent.
Rachel Maddow, the largest star of MSNBC, has anchored the hour on weekly nights for the early days of President Trump's administration, but returns to hosting one night a week at the end of April.
MSNBC has plans to revise its schedule for weeks. The network cancels the 19.00 hour program Anchored by Joy Reid, who has anchored that time slot since 2020. On Monday, the network said that Mrs. Reid would be replaced at 7 p.m. by a trio of hosts: Symone Sanders Townsend, a political commentator and former Democratic strategist; Michael Steele, a former chairman of the Republican National Committee; And Alicia Menendez, an anchor on the network.
Mrs. Reid leaves the network, Mrs. Kutler said in her memo. The trio is currently replacing her co-gastheer of 'The Weekend', which is broadcast on Saturday and Sunday morning.
Mrs. Reid said in a statement that she was proud of the work she and her team achieved during her time at MSNBC, including the reporting on the Kamala Harris campaign for President, who interviewed Brittney Griner for her testing in Russia and the police -killed black Americans covered.
“We supported and defended the Real History, the 1619 project, diversity, fairness and inclusion and access to books for our children and students,” said Mrs. Reid in her statement. “And we all did it with a smile and a sense of humor.”
The leaders of the network made the change in the first place because they thought that the viewer figures were overwhelming for Mrs. Reid's show, according to two people with knowledge of the decision. So far this year, Mrs. Reid's program is far behind “The Ingraham Angle”, the rival show on Fox News, in the total number of viewers on that hour. But in that period it surpassed a rival program on CNN, “Erin Burnett Outfront” in the total number of viewers. Both shows on Fox and CNN have performed Mrs. Reid's program better in the most important advertisement -demographic demographic, according to Nielsen data.
Mrs. Psaki came to MSNBC in 2023 after a career in Democratic politics, the most recently as a press secretary for the White House for President Biden. She is currently organizing a show, “Inside with Jen Psaki”, on Sunday at noon and Monday at 8 p.m. the name of the show will probably change, according to a person with knowledge of internal discussions about the program, although nothing has been decided yet .
MSNBC announced changes on its line -up elsewhere. Co-hosts “The Weekend” are being replaced by a new trio anchors with Jonathan Capehart, a host on MSNBC and columnist. The network is also planning to introduce an evening edition of that program organized by another group of anchors, including MSNBC -hastheer Ayman Mohyeldin. Ali Velshi, who anchors a program of the same name at the weekend, will expand his show to three hours.
