LAS VEGAS (KLAS) – 911 calls 8 News Now Investigators revealed the horrific moments Wednesday after a man's daughter called police to report her brother had killed their father in Las Vegas' western valley.
The young woman, inconsolable, begged police to send help shortly before her mother called 911. Both said the man was bleeding – and already dead – by the time dispatchers asked them if they could render aid.
Police said Jeremy Peterson, 45, took his 15-year-old son's electronic devices from the teen, who then shot and killed Peterson at their home in the 6600 block of Tampa Court near Smoke Ranch Road and Rainbow Boulevard on Saturday, December. 28. Peterson was pronounced dead at the scene.
“He shot my father,” the daughter told the police, out of breath and in a sad panic. 'This isn't real. This isn't real. Staff.”
The dispatcher asked the young woman questions about what happened and pressed for details about her brother.
“What color clothes is he wearing?” she asked.
“He wasn't wearing a shirt,” the young woman replied. “He was just wearing jeans. I don't know where he went. I don't know where the gun is. He shot and killed him [Peterson]”, according to the recordings.
The girl said she didn't want to leave her mother alone and eventually went outside and told the dispatcher that the teen had pulled the gun on her three weeks earlier. She said that after a family argument, the boy got angry, punched a hole in the wall and ran outside.
The young woman told the dispatcher that she told her brother, “You're going to be in so much trouble.”
She repeatedly said the teen had shot her father and killed him, and expressed immense regret for not telling them he had access to a gun.
“I always thought he was going to kill himself, but no one else did,” she said. 'He pointed a gun at me and I should have warned my parents. I should have told them. I should have told them.”
The girl's mother repeatedly shouted “Jesus” during her near-simultaneous call to 911 as she tried to explain what had happened.
“Jesus, I can't believe this is happening,” the woman said.
She continued, saying she thought her son was wearing pajama bottoms when he left the family home. She repeated, “We had a fight, we had a fight.”
She also said, “He's not breathing. He's not breathing.”
Neighbors, who also called police, told 911 that the teen had run through their yard. One said the teen punched their sliding glass door.
“He's running from the police,” a neighbor said on the recording, adding that she saw the police K9 unit outside her home.
The teen was eventually found – and arrested – in the 5500 block of Balzar Avenue near Smoke Ranch and Decatur Boulevard. After his arrest, the 15-year-old was booked into a juvenile detention center and charged with open murder.
Friends, family and community members will gather to celebrate his life and pay their respects during a service of songs held Friday at the Apostolic Church of Las Vegas. The service starts at 5:00 PM
