Artificial Intelligence Software has given editing tools a huge boost in power, far beyond the game controllers and grammar disorders of the past.
AI can taste, rewrite, summarize and compose text, making it easy to make clean, complex documents in a flash – even on a smartphone. If you have not yet received, free offers from Apple and Google are an easy place to start experimenting.
If you tinker with the software, you can see the possibilities and give you insight into when – and when not – To have AI write. Here is a guide to get started.
Use Apple Intelligence
Apple's integrated suite of AI tools, called Apple Intelligence, contains a selection of writing aids. (It requires iOS 18.1 and a more recent iPhone or iPad.)
The writing aids work in most apps where you type or dictate words. Once you have written something (such as on pages), mark the part that you want to edit. Select Writing Tools in the pop-up menu or tap the Circular Apple Intelligence icon in the toolbar.
In the Writing Tools menu, select the option you want to use, such as test reading, rewriting or summarizing – or describe how you want to change the text. You can display it as key points, a list or a table, or even re -arrange the tone of writing with a tap to make it sound more friendly, more professional or streamlined. If you do not like the changes, return to the original.
With the help of the popular Chatgpt -Chatbot, Apple Intelligence can completely re -assemble a concept, although you have to switch on chatgpt first. To do this, tap the Compose button and follow the instructions on the screen. (The New York Times has sued Chatgpt Maker OpenAi and his partner, Microsoft, and claims infringement of the copyright of news content with regard to AI systems. The two companies have denied the claims of the suit.)
Just like other AI chatbots, Gemini responds to questions and prompts. For example, you can stick a memo-concept and ask Gemini to read and check it for you.
Gemini can also generate text on request, such as a project proposal. For example, enter the prompt box: “Help me to prepare a proposal to the city council to get a permit for a dog days of the Summer Festival on 2 and 3 August with a puppyparade, a Wiener Dog derby, a fetch competition and supplier cabins for local pets shops.”
As soon as Gemini has rolled out the proposal design, you can save it as a Google Doc for your own processing and refinement.
Use other options
If your device is too old for Apple Intelligence or you do not use Google products, you still have many AI helpers to consider, although many charge a subscription costs. Grammar has been around since 2009 and now has a mobile app that works with the keyboard software of your device for test reading, leading adjustments and other AI assistance. Microsoft has its Copilot AI tool that works with the Microsoft 365 Suite.
The app stores have many AI-Bots, including writing-specific assistants such as Paragraphai for a variety of communication styles (including help for dyslexic writers) and Sudowrite for narrative projects. General chatbots such as Chatgpt (who has a writing assistant) or Claude van Anthropic can rewrite or generate text.
Take it into account
Remember that AI is not perfect. Check the bone's work because it can make mistakes.
And although AI -help has countless benefits for more impersonal documents such as memos and proposals, too much of trust can thinning your voice and style – especially because more people use AI to write.
Take the first sentences of the short story of Arthur Conan Doyle from 1891 'A Scandal in Bohemia', as rewritten by software to Dr. Watson to sound more casual:
Original: She is always up to Sherlock Holmes the woman. I have rarely heard him who mentions her under a different name. In his eyes, she overshadows and dominates her whole sex. It was not that he felt some emotion related to love for Irene Adler.
Apple Intelligence: Sherlock Holmes always called her the woman. He rarely used a different name for her. In his mind she was the most prominent woman among all women. It was not because he felt romantic feelings for Irene Adler.
Twin: For Sherlock she is always 'the woman'. I almost never heard him call him anything else. The way he sees it completely surpasses all other women. It's not like he was in love with Irene Adler or something.
You should always be committed to your own words – who can help prevent people from thinking: “Hey, has AI written this?”
