For decades, geologists have understood the broad image of how Eastern -Noord -Amerika originated. It starts with plate tectonics, the process in which pieces of the earth of the earth shuffle around in the course of time, driven by churns in the underlying cloak. Plate tectonics created and then broke an old supercontinent that is known as Rodinia. By about 550 million years ago, an excerpt from Rodinia had shook south of the equator, where it was quietly tens of millions of years. That fragment is the heart of what we know today as Eastern -America.
When, about 500 million years ago, tectonic forces began to bring excerpts from other country mass to the future Eastern -America. Worn as parts on an assembly line, these continental strips collapsed, one after the other. The strips went together and built the continental margin.
The Appalachian Mountains were born during that process, as more and more continental collisions in the east of Noord -America and his agglomerated sharpen pushed into heaven. In the west, the eastern North -American margin was merged with old rocks that today form the heart of the continent, west of the Appalaches and through the midwest and in the large plains.

When one tectonic plate slides under the other, strips of the earth's crust, known as terrains, can build and hold and retrieve a larger land mass. Such a process was the key to the formation of Eastern -America.

At about 270 million years ago, that action was taken and all the country masses in the world were merged into a second single Supercontinent, Pangea. When, about 200 million years ago, Pangea began to split apart, a geologically disadvantaged that formed the Atlantic, and East -Norord -America shuffled to his current position in the world.
Since then, erosion has worn out the peaks of the once-a-moist Appalachen and eastern North America has established itself in a usually quiet existence. It is what geologists call a 'passive margin', because although it is the edge of a continent, it is no longer the edge of a tectonic plate: that lies thousands of kilometers to the east, in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean.
