SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — The heat wave plaguing Southern California will last at least another day and the power grid is doing everything it can to keep up.
The National Weather Service (NWS) reports that record high temperatures will continue through Monday evening in all parts of San Diego County.

An extreme heat warning is in effect until 8 p.m. Monday for the San Diego Valley areas, including Santee, El Cajon, Escondido, La Mesa, Poway and San Marcos, with temperatures expected to range from 100 to 110 degrees Fahrenheit.
While coastal areas of San Diego are under heat warnings through 8 p.m. Monday — San Diego, Oceanside, Vista, Chula Vista, Carlsbad, Encinitas and National City. NWS says high temperatures are expected in the upper 80s and low 90s near the coast, and 90 to 100 degrees just a few miles inland.
As San Diego's power grid scrambles to keep up with demand for electricity amid record temperatures, tens of thousands of people in the region were left without power on Sunday.
A spokesperson for San Diego Gas and Electric (SDG&E) told FOX 5/KUSI Sunday afternoon that he believes the heat is related to the widespread power outages in the region, but he is still investigating the cause.
The spokesperson also took the opportunity to thank customers for their patience and said SDG&E crews are working day and night in the heat to restore power to everyone affected.

If the power goes out during extreme heat, there are several steps you can take to stay cool.
According to the CDC, residents can wear light clothing, keep their homes cool with battery-powered fans, drink plenty of fluids, exercise less, take cold showers, keep refrigerators and freezers closed to preserve food, close blinds and curtains to keep the sun out, and find alternative ways to prepare food, such as grilling outdoors.
For more information about what to do in the event of a power outage in warm weather, call 800-CDC-INFO.
People in San Diego County affected by the outage can find more information, check the status of an outage, and report an outage via SDG&E's power outage map.
