Haleiwa Harbor sees dramatic action, water drops 10 to 15 ft

HONOLULU (KHON2) – Haleiwa Harbor had flood effects after Tsunami on Tuesday. The harbor saw dramatic action with water that dropped 10 to 15 feet.

Dramatic video showed water over the parking lot of Haleiwa Harbor around 8 p.m. and then quickly withdrew.

Many said they ran to the harbor as soon as they heard the size of the earthquake.

“It was chaotic here because everyone had to pull their boats out and the traffic, many people live on the other side and they all tried to go out of the beach because they closed the beaches,” said Jacob Vandervelde, who works in Haleiwa Harbor.

Gridlocked traffic led to indecision about whether people should take their boats with them to higher terrain.

“There were at least fifteen people who did it, took boats, and many people took them to the sea, which is smart and they were waiting for it, but it was a crowded situation with all the roads that were roasted,” said Kevin Wilson, owner of Ocean Outfitters.

Once Wilson received the report, he hurried to move his boat to higher terrain.

The increases increased in the Haleiwa river as soon as it was completely dark. Water was seen that ran under the Anahulu bridge or Rainbow Bridge.

Wilson said that the water depth in the harbor is about 15 feet.

Boats tied to the dock came under the dock and then popped up again.

On July 30, the pier still had water on it from the night before. Mud was found in the parking lot, where many tour companies are located.

Vandervelde recommends to our hulls to check their hulls for possible damage.

“The boats were in the mud, so yes, they should definitely check their hulls today,” said Vendervele.
