Germany launches additional measures against the 'shadow fleet' of Russia

Berlin (Reuters) -Gany has promised additional measures to continue the so -called “Shadow Fleet” of Russia in the Baltic and North Sea, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement on Tuesday.

Western sanctions aimed at reducing Russia's income after the invasion of Ukraine have led to the rise of a huge “shadow fleet” of tankers that help Moscow flow his rough export.

From Tuesday, the German authorities started questioning tankers about their insurance coverage against damage to the oil pollution, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said, adding that the insurance coverage of the ships of “shadow fleet” is often unknown because they avoid renowned insurers and European ports.

“Our goal is very clear: we increase the pressure on the Russian shadow fleet and the protection of the Baltic Sea,” in the statement of the German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul.
