George Conway Has a Gloomy Prediction About the Republican ‘Looney-Bin Caucus’

Conservative attorney George Conway on Friday warned of the chaos a Republican “looney-bin caucus” would wreak in the House next year.

Washington Post columnist Eugene Robinson had just used the term in MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” to refer to a plethora of election deniers among incoming Republicans in the House following the midterm elections. Several of them used microphones this weekend to pledge investigations into Democratic affairs, most notably the president’s son, Hunter Biden.

These are the same legislators that Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) will have to satisfy to be elected Speaker of the House.

Conway predicted that the members of the MAGA contingent in the House will be driven to constantly raise the stakes as they chase attention in an increasingly crowded field, saying it will only get worse.

“The ‘looney-bin caucus’ is running for re-election in pure red districts, and they have to cater to the MAGA base,” Conway explained. “It’s all about them getting their pussy on Fox News and talking about Hunter Biden and all this stuff — and ripping off Joe Biden. And that’s what we’re going to see” as they all compete for fame, he noted, “because that’s what gets them… re-elected.”

Robinson was skeptical that McCarthy would temper his overtures to MAGA Republicans once he determined the speaker’s position. He has the nomination, but has yet to vote.

“Remember, he’s still running for speaker. He still needs to get those 218 votes to be speaker, and he needs to get them from people like Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene and Jim Jordan, and you know, all the Republicans there in the looney-bin caucus,” Robinson explained.

He added: “If you didn’t know Kevin McCarthy you could read optimistically that he’s playing for them now and maybe things will change when he becomes a speaker. I know Kevin McCarthy though – I don’t think it’s going to change.”
