From a pool of more than 200 applicants spread across the state, 140 students were invited to attend the free, state-funded boarding school for high-achieving, academically motivated students.
Students from Caddo Parish who were among the new first-year LSMSA students included:

The school year '24-'25 started on Wednesday August 21 at LSMSA.
This group of new students consists of 77 new second-year students, 50 new third-year students and five new fourth-year students.
Executive Director Dr. Steve Horton officially welcomed the students and their families to LSMSA.
“I hope you are becoming aware of what happens when you use your talents and skills, when you expand your capacity to study, to work, to learn,” Dr. Horton said. “I hope you are already feeling what it can mean to you to soar with the eagles.”
The keynote address, given by Dr. Allison Landry, associate professor of biology at LSMSA, encouraged new students to remain resilient under pressure and rely on their fellow students for support.
“Resilience means recovering from setbacks and struggles, putting one foot in front of the other and moving forward,” says Dr. Landry.
Processional music was performed by the LSMSA Mixed Ensemble under the direction of Professor of Instrumentals, Theory and Composition Michael Young. The national anthem was sung by Sophie Lee ('26), of Bossier Parish, and the LSMSA alma mater was sung by Elizabeth Porche ('26), of Ascension Parish. The senior class reflection was given by Senior Class President Blaise Albarez ('25), of St. Tammany Parish.
