Former Bet CEOs game changing advice for prospective leaders

    Former chairman and CEO of the Networks Debra Lee is known for its groundbreaking leadership in the media and entertainment industry.

    Lee joins wealth -guest lord Brad Smith to discuss her book I am Debra Lee Although they also offer valuable advice for young professionals, especially women and people of color, who lead organizations in the media.

    “I wrote it because I looked around and I didn't see many female managers, or very little female and barely black female managers, who were CEOs. The figures are still very low, and I said I want to explain and describe my journey, so that hopefully young people can learn from it,” says Lee.

    Lee then emphasizes the importance of education: “I would encourage young people to be well trained. That is the first step. My father always told me that I was born during the year of Brown versus Board of Education. So I had opportunities that the generation did not have behind me,” she says.

    Moreover, Lee encourages Lee to broaden someone's skills in the pursuit of C-suite positions: “Try to broaden your experience. Do not just be a lawyer or a lawyer who understands programming or understands marketing. That was my way to CEO.”
