To remind Mrs. Marvel‘s credits scene, where Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel suddenly appears in Kamala Khan’s (Iman Vellani’s) bedroom, while Kamala is on a spaceship with Goose (the cat who is really a Flerken)? Judging by a newly released teaser, that scene will lead right into it The miraclesthe sequel to the one from 2019 Captain Marvel. It is part of the MCU stage five and the film is directed by Nia DaCosta (Candyman).
Both Larson and Vellani reprise their respective roles for the film, along with Teyonah Parris as Monica Rambeau, daughter of Carol/Captain Marvel’s BFF Maria. Monica grew up to be a SWORD agent, but thanks to the events of WandaVision, she can also absorb and manipulate energy as Spectrum. As for Khan, aka Ms. Marvel, she is a teenage Pakistani American living in Jersey City. She is a huge comic book fan, adores Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel and fantasizes about becoming a superhero one day. Her powers stem from the Terrigen Mists, released worldwide in a crossover story arc, the “Inhumanity”. The fog activated dormant Inhuman cells in several people, including Kamala.
According to the official premise:
Carol Danvers, aka Captain Marvel, has reclaimed her identity from the tyrannical Kree and exacted revenge against the Supreme Intelligence. But unintended consequences leave Carol to take on the burden of a destabilized universe. When her duties send her to an anomalous wormhole associated with a Kree revolutionary, her powers become entwined with those of Jersey City superfan Kamala Khan, aka Ms. Marvel, and Carol’s estranged niece, now SABER astronaut Captain Monica Rambeau . Together, this unlikely trio must team up and learn to work together to save the universe as The Marvels.
Naturally, Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) will be on hand to provide some assistance, along with fan favorite Goose the cat. Saagar Shaikh, Zenobia Shroff and Mohan Kapur will do their reprise Mrs. Marvel roles as Kamala’s elder brother Aamir, mother Muneeba and father Yusuf respectively. There’s also a new villain, played by Zawe Ashton, most likely the aforementioned Kree revolutionary. (Rumor has it that Ashton will play a gender-swapped version of Kree General Ael-Dan from the comics.) Park Seo-joon (Parasite) has also been cast in an undisclosed role.
The TV series Secret invasion-which had a full trailer released last week- also builds on the events of Captain Marvelbut with a very distinct espionage thriller vibe and themes of political paranoia inspired by the TV series Native country And The Americans. Judging from this new teaser, The miracles feels like more classic MCEU fare: lots of action sprinkled with bits of humor, interpersonal tensions, and some timely self-reflection. In other words, it will be very similar to that of 2012 The Avengers.
The teaser begins with Fury and Rambeau exploring an anomaly in space – it resembles a wormhole or “jump point,” as Rambeau calls it. She tries to get some scientific data on the anomaly, only to switch places with an understandably panicked Kamala Khan. Khan’s panic is short-lived once she recognizes Fury; she is one veryfan, remember. (“Is this an Avengers test?”) Meanwhile, Rambeau finds himself in the midst of battle on another planet, while Danvers finds himself in Khan’s bedroom, stunned by all the posters of himself plastered on the walls.
Eventually, Fury and Rambeau discover the problem and meet at Khan’s house, where Rambeau explains that their powers have become intertwined. Eager to show Rambeau what she can do, Khan eventually switches places with Danvers – whose powers are clearly also intertwined – where she encounters Goose, who does what a Flerken does to those who attack her. Are those also Flerken kittens? How deadly cute is that? And as vehemently as Rambeau and Danvers deny that the three of them are a team, they totally are – much to Khan’s delight.
The miracles is scheduled for theatrical release on November 10, 2023.
