El Salvador President Nayib Bukele has made light from new US Senate legislation that would impose sanctions on the policy of his country in relation to Bitcoin and say that Democrats are “just salt” in an X post.
President Bukele referred to the development after the introduction of the El Salvador Accountability Act of 2025, which was directly aimed at Bukele's regime and the cryptocurrency actions of El Salvador.
The resolution, introduced in June by Democratic senators Chris van Hollen (D-MD.), Tim Kaine (D-VA.) And Alex Padilla (D-Calif.), Would apply ownership and visa sanctions against Salvadoran representatives deemed to guide or deeds of the laws of the Human Rights.
The bill also calls for opposition to financial aid or loans to the Salvadoran government.
The bill takes a deeper dip in the Bitcoin game of El Salvador and describes it as a possible tool for large-scale corruption, bribery, transplant and sanctions. It requires an evaluation of the use of crypto by the nation, including Bitcoin purchases, the use of fairs, wallet addresses and the potential use of crypto to avoid international sanctions.
In response, Bukele placed a screenshot of the account with the caption: “Hahahahahahaha the dems are just salt …”
El Salvador has centered a large part of his financial policy on Bitcoin since 2021, when it took the currency as a legal tender.
The government still buys a bitcoin every day and has more than 6,200 BTC, which is worth around $ 678 million at the time of writing. President Bukele says that El Salvador will continue to buy one bitcoin every day until it becomes “too expensive” with Fiat -Malutas.
