A state trooper is recovering at home after being struck by a car on I-465 early Saturday morning.
About 3:14 a.m., an Indiana State Police trooper responded to a crash near the 1.5 mile marker on I-465 East on the city's south side. That section of the highway is under construction and concrete barriers block both shoulders.
The officer parked in the left lane to direct traffic away from the crash site, where several disabled vehicles were waiting to be towed. The lights of his police car were flashing, an ISP spokesman said.
A blue 2002 Honda Civic struck the trooper's vehicle from behind, pushing it into the officer, who was taken to a local hospital before being released home. The driver of the Honda remains in hospital in stable condition.
Investigators believe alcohol was a factor in the crash, an ISP spokesperson told IndyStar.
Indiana law requires drivers to yield to emergency vehicles on the side of the road. If it is not possible to change lanes, drivers should slow down to 10 mph (16 km/h) below the speed limit.
