Former President Donald Trump responded Tuesday to Taylor Swift's endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris, after the “Tortured Poets Department” singer endorsed the Democratic candidate.
Trump was asked about Swift's comments in the spin room, a space where reporters can ask candidates and their surrogates questions after a debate. He replied, “I have no idea.”
Shortly after the presidential debate ended on Tuesday night, Swift shared a photo of herself with her cat, Benjamin Button, on Instagram and wrote in the caption that she will be supporting Harris and Tim Walz. Swift also acknowledged Trump's use of AI-generated images of herself endorsing him, saying that it made her realize she needed to be clear about her true plans for the election. The pop star captioned the post by calling herself a “Childless Cat Lady,” a dig at J.D. Vance's now-viral comments about people who don't have children.
In the four-paragraph recommendation, Swift encourages her 283 million followers to do their own research ahead of this fall's election and get out and vote.
“Like many of you, I watched the debate tonight. If you haven't already, now is a good time to do your research on the issues at hand and the positions these candidates are taking on the topics that matter most to you,” Swift wrote. “As a voter, I will make sure to watch and read everything I can about their proposed policies and plans for this country.”
This isn’t the first time Swift has endorsed a political candidate. She supported President Joe Biden and Harris in 2020, and she supported U.S. Senate candidate Phil Bredesen and U.S. Rep. Jim Cooper in his 2018 reelection bid for Tennessee’s 5th congressional district.
